Richmond Chamber Orchestra

ACTIVITIESThe RCO is a new string chamber orchestra of anything between 8 and 20 players. Based in Richmond, we will perform annually in the Royal Georgian Theatre, and at other venues in North Yorkshire. The more unusual/ unexpected the venue, the better. We will give 3 concerts annually at full strength, and others (for example in schools, care homes, at events) with reduced numbers when necessary.

In additional to the traditional string repertoire, we will be exploring less familiar music, and are pledged (when we can afford it!) to play one piece by a living composer in each concert. We are also committed to offering really outstanding young players (Grade 8+) a platform, as soloists or orchestra members. We perform standing up. A very rough criterion for joining is that a player would be pleased to play a concerto (baroque) movement in a public concert, and make a very good job of it. Anyone is welcome to get in touch.

We are thrilled to have the international soloist Philippa Mo as our first director. Anyone interested in being considered as director or conductor some time in the future is also welcome to get in touch.
